FAQ Discover Tutoring
Here you'll find answers to frequently asked questions about:
How the platform works, how to collaborate, course management, and administrative matters.
We also invite you to consult the information brochure for tutor, available for download. If your question isn't answered in this FAQ or the brochure, please feel free to contact us via the chatbox at the bottom of the page.
On TutorPortal.Pro, you can teach general languages like English, French, and Spanish, or offer specialized courses such as exam preparation, business language, medical language, and targeted conversation. If you're qualified, you can teach multiple languages. We encourage tutors with unique skills to set their lesson prices accordingly.
To become a tutor with us, you need a master's degree in teaching your language, at least eight years of teaching experience, excellent communication skills, and a commitment to our educational values. We believe in quality and professionalism, and we look for tutors who share these principles.
After completing the online form, your profile and video are reviewed. We advise that you take care to present yourself well on video. The selection process is careful. Typically within 7- 21 business days after receipt of your complete application. If you do not hear back, it can simply mean that we have enough applicants for your language at this time or that we are looking for teachers with a different profile.
You have the freedom to manage your schedule and set your own rates. To ensure good visibility and access to student bookings, we ask that you: Offer at least 5 hours per week of bookable time slots, keep your calendar updated at least 5 weeks in advance, and maintain a consistent presence on the platform for at least 5 months. Active and easily bookable tutors are more likely to appear in search results and be recommended to students.
Tutors are paid in euros, twice per month, for lessons that have been confirmed as given by both the tutor and the student on the platform.
Payments are made via bank transfer (SEPA) or PayPal/Wise (outside SEPA). Make sure your account details are correct to avoid delays.
You will receive a payment advice by email on the payment day, including all details needed for your records as an independent worker (lesson details, amount paid, payment reference, your and our legal information, and VAT exemption notice).
Please note: As required by law, we report all payments annually to the Belgian tax authorities. This information may be shared with your home country via the Common Reporting Standard (CRS).
To boost your visibility on the platform, we recommend the following strategies:
Stay active and responsive Set regular availability, reply promptly to student messages, and keep your calendar up to date. Active tutors are prioritised in search results.
Collect positive reviews Encourage students to leave feedback after lessons. Positive reviews help build trust with new learners and improve your ranking. Tutors with consistently excellent reviews may also be featured on our “Featured Tutors” page.
Share your expertise You can further increase your exposure by creating short articles or videos (e.g. tips, language hacks, or cultural insights). We may feature your content on our blog and social media channels, helping you reach more students and build your professional profile.
Yes, you are free to leave the platform, but certain conditions apply to ensure a consistent and respectful experience for students.
As a tutor, you agree to:
Offer a minimum of 5 hours per week of time slots that students can book directly through the platform;
Keep your lesson offer active on the platform for an initial period of at least 5 months (excluding school holidays).
If exceptional circumstances mean that you are unable to do that, please contact our team so we can find a suitable solution together.
The school spends continuously to promote your future lessons. If you wish - either to pause for more than two weeks - or to stop offering time for booking, during the first 5 months, you should give 30 days notice to the school, which may otherwise assess a charge back of 15% of your lesson fees in the previous 30 days, with a minimum of 100 euros and deducted from your next or final payment.
All your lessons already booked should be given even if after the end of your notice period . This is to ensure respect for the students' learning journey, If you cannot do that, the school will transfer the lessons to another tutor via an administrative charge to you of 20 € per lesson to transfer.
Once you are past the initial 5 month period, the notice period to stop is two complete calendar months.
When you apply to TutorPortal.Pro, we use your information to create your public professional profile, which students can see. You'll have the chance to review and approve your profile before it goes live. We may use parts of your profile, like your photo, biography, and video, to promote your lessons through Google Ads and social media. All other personal data, such as your address, phone number, date of birth, Tax ID number, and payment details, is kept confidential and used only for internal communication and legal or financial reporting. We never share or sell this data.

You must have a valid business number or tax ID according to the laws in your country
We send you an advice for each payment, which includes all required legal details for your invoicing as an independent / self employed worker..
Please note: All payments you receive are reported annually to the Belgian authorities and may be shared with your home country under the Common Reporting Standard (CRS).
If you plan to be unavailable for more than 2 weeks, please notify us as early as possible and at least 30 days in advance.
During your absence:
We will pause the promotion of your profile and lessons;
You will remain committed to give any lessons already booked with you, and you will be paid for those as they are completed.
If necessary, we can work with you to manage student expectations and reschedule any affected lessons.
At TutorPortal.Pro, we’ve replaced “free trial lessons” with a structured 15-minute planning conversation designed to ensure quality and clarity right from the start. This brief session
sets the foundation for a more effective learning experience by addressing several key areas: Agreeing on objectives and focus, Defining how progress will be measured, Planning periodic reviews, Celebrating your student, encouraging continuity. By investing 15 minutes up front to plan and by documenting and following up on these points, tutors ensure every course begins with a shared understanding of goals and a clear quality framework. This approach sets students up for success, fosters trust and commitment, and helps sustain long-term tutor–student relationships.
